About Goji Berries
Goji berries are also known as the Tibetan Goji Berry, the Chinese Wolfberry, or the Himalayian Goji Berry.
Goji berries have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for nearly 2,000 years. Common legend has it that the local farmers named the fruit 'wolfberry' after they observed packs of wolves feasting on the berries during the summer months.
In today's western world the goji berry has developed a reputation for being a 'super fruit' due to its high nutrient richness and antioxidant qualities. This has stimulated scientific research about its potential health benefits.
Processing and Consumption
The best quality goji berries are vine ripened, hand picked and sun dried, ideally without the use of preservatives or chemicals. These are usually then sold in dry form, similar to a raisin or sultana, either in bulk or small packages. Goji berries are usually consumed directly, and do not need to be rehydrated prior to use. They are a perfect snack, or may be added to cereal, trail mixes, yoghurt, muesli or smoothies.
