Are your lipsticks and makeup killing you softly?
Every day women are putting their lives at risk by using dangerous chemicals in the endeavour to look beautiful. Most women would be horrified to know that 17 commonly used ingredients in today's average lipstick are potential carcinogens.
Add to this, the fact that the average woman ingests between 8 & 12kg (17 & 26 lbs) of lipstick over her lifetime, this becomes an issue for serious concern.
Dangers of Synthetic Chemicals
In the book, "Dangerous Beauty - Cosmetics & Personal Care" by Peter Dingle & Toni Brown, the authors stress the dangers of lipsticks causing cheilitis, a form of contact dermatitis which can be contracted from the aluminium content.
Other problems include drying of the lips due to the synthetic pigments used, and the ingestion of potential carcinogens, including the nasty nitrosamine group.
Autopsies done on cancerous tumours have shown propyl paraben, methyl & ethyl residues present.
Waxes in Cosmetics
The waxes used in commercial lipsticks not only contain numerous synthetic toxic chemicals, but also the FD&C (Food Drug & Cosmetic) colours, which may be potential carcinogens, and aluminium and lead.
The reality is that the melting point of this wax is around 120° F (50° C) and our body temperature is around 78° F (25° C), therefore the wax does not break down in our system. Generally the only way this wax enters the body is through the use of cosmetics.
The liver and other organs are unable to eliminate these substances. Once ingested, the chemicals can sit in our systems for life, with the potential to cause many health problems.
A Natural Alternative
Concerned women should seek out a more natural solution and use lipsticks that contain absolutely no synthetic chemicals. Look for preservatives that are derived from plants and are 100% safe. Many natural cosmetics also include earthy, natural mineral colours, ensuring there is no need for an artificial lip gloss.
Natural organic cosmetics, including lipsticks, should be completely safe to use, vegan friendly and, best of all, 'safe to eat'!
